Back in my day, Ken Block hooned in Subarus. The original Gymkhana was done in a 2006 WRX STi when Block had just signed a deal with the manufacturer to form Subaru Rally Team USA with ex-Supercross rider Travis Pastrana. The sequel was done in a 2009 STI, a similar vehicle to the rally racer Block and Pastrana raced in the Rally America series.
In 2010, Block moved on from both Subaru and Rally America to sign a deal with Monster Energy and Ford to run select rounds of the World Rally Championship. Ever since then the Chief Hoonigan has built rad Ford after Ford for Gymkhana and his new Climbkhana video series.
As car enthusiasts we often pine for the cool cars of our teenage years. The ones we couldn’t afford when we first passed our driving test. Ken Block is no better than the rest of us. Yesterday, he revealed his Fox Body Mustang concept for the world to see.
Ken partnered with Hollywood graphic artist and designer of the new Batmobile, Ash Thorp, to design the HOONIFOX. The design brief was rather simple: Miami Vice, inspiration from a white Lamborghini Countach, but do it with a fox body. The result is so very RADwood with period correct rear window louvers and the 5.0’s iconic taillight covers. The DTM-inspired aero package is just a cherry on top.
There are no power specs on the car as it is still just a CGI rendering, but the team at Hoonigan has all but confirmed this fox body will be the next Gymkhana star. If you followed the crew in their Netflix documentary you’ll know this is somewhat of a surprise as they hinted at Gymkhana TEN being the last.
